Point Based Immigration System in Australia
Point-based immigration systems are used by some countries, including Australia, to manage their permanent and temporary migration programs. The aim of these systems is to identify and select highly skilled individuals who are most likely to contribute to the country’s economy and society.
In the case of Australia, the point-based system is known as the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program. Under this program, potential migrants are awarded points based on factors such as their age, education, work experience, English language proficiency, and other criteria. To be eligible for permanent residency, candidates must score a minimum number of points. The government of Australia regularly adjusts the minimum point score requirements to ensure that the number of migrants selected each year aligns with the country’s economic and social needs.
The point-based system allows the Australian government to have more control over the selection of migrants and to ensure that they are selecting the individuals who are most likely to integrate successfully into Australian society and contribute to the country’s economy.
