PTE Summarize Spoken Text vs PTE Summarize Written Text the key differences

The PTE Academic exam includes two different types of Summarize tasks – Summarize Written Text and Summarize Spoken Text. Here’s a brief comparison between the two:

Summarize Spoken Text: In this task, test takers listen to a spoken passage and must write a summary of it in one sentence, containing between 5 and 75 words. The focus is on the ability to listen for key information and convey the main idea of the passage in a concise manner.

Summarize Written Text: In this task, test takers are presented with a passage of text and must write a summary of it in one sentence, containing between 50 and 70 words. The focus is on the ability to understand the main idea of the text and convey it concisely.

While the format of the tasks is different, the skills required are a bit similar – both tasks assess the test taker’s ability to identify the main idea and key details of a passage and express it concisely. The main difference is that Summarize Written Text requires reading and writing skills, while Summarize Spoken Text requires listening and writing skills.
